Dong Hoi is located close to Nhat Le river, about 500km from Hanoi Capital, along Highway 1A or north-south railway. The total area of 155.54 km ², is 55.58 km2 urban, suburban area: 99.69 km2 fresh water supply for the city was taken from Bau Tro - a freshwater lake in the city, where is the store of many cultural Bau Tro items.
Dong Hoi have 12 km coastline with beautiful beaches (Nhat Le, Bao Ninh, Quang Phu). The train station (Ga Dong Hoi; 820 558; Ð Thuan Ly) is located 3km from Highway 1A. Take Tran Hung Dao street until it crosses a bridge. A signpost directs you to take the next right, then take another right and then the station is directly ahead.

Air from Hà Nội or Hồ Chí Minh City at Dong Hoi Airport. The airport was completed and opened on May 18, 2008 with the first commercial flight from Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport and followed by air link with Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport from July 1, 2009.
Today Vietnam Airline Opend 4 flight per week from Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh city to Dong Hoi city.
